I tried to fill frets with 1/32 Birch ply (only thing on hand thin enough) That was too fat, so I used 1/64 Birch ply. Used CA to glue in, then taped over fret board to rough plane. Took tape off then final sanded with a long board and 220 grit. Used CA method from Bass Player mag to finish. Worked beautifully and was very quick. Put about 5 coats on wet sanding with 400 then 600 grit for the final couple. Used some finishing paste wax for the final buff and turned out incredible. The fret lines with the 1/64 ply are nice and crisp. I also took off the nut and lowered the strings a bit to compensate for no frets. Lowered all the saddle height adjusters, and then tweaked the truss rod to get as low as possible without buzz. Overall a very painless project and well worth the effort. Good luck! Jeff

Just did my Cort 5 string action bass last week. Bought a pair of "end cutters" from the hardware store and then ground down the face to get a truly flush fit on the frets. Filed a groove in the soldering gun tip to keep it from slipping off the frets. Took less than an hour to yank them all out.
