The most important and overlooked aspect of setting up a fretless bass is the nut!
If the nut slots are too high, no amount of adjustment in other areas of setup will make the bass play well.
The string grooves need to be filed ALMOST level to the fretboard, so there is about the thickness of a buisness card between the bottom of the nut slots and the fretboard.
You will need a set of nut files, or a small tapered round file like the ones jewelers use.
Go slow and steady as the rewards are worth it.
Once done, you will be amazed at how different the bass plays-low and fast with reduced effort and plenty of mwah to spare..
