I run mine at .005" above the fingerboard at the nut, and I could go lower.
Another point is to be sure the fingerboard is true.
I used a radiused sanding block, after I let the tension off the neck to the point of being ruler straight. (Strings off, of course)
Then when you string up and re-set up, it will sing.
