okay, well im only plain bass 2months now but ibe been playin guitar for a year and half prior. i bought a cheap fender copy+im tinkin of gettn a new, better bass in a few months. i was goin 2keep my 1st bass and defret it. mainly just 2c what its like,novelty, etc. but finally heres my question:since its a cheap bass with cheap materials,obviously a better quality bass will have better tone,because of woods. but if i upgraded the pickups, maybe some emgs, r even bartolini+possibly upgrade the electronics 2active(if thats possible?)but if i did this,wud it make much of a difference to the tone+sound?wud i b better off buyin a fretless neck of good quality+fittin it aswell to improve the tone? or is it possible to get a good sound out of cheap beginner bass at all?
