I own a fretted SX jazz bass and I'd say they give the Mexican Fenders a run for their money. I know you usually get what you pay for but in this case I think you get a whole lot more.

: Anybody know if these SX basses are worth a

: I am amazed that anyone can sell a new
: instrument for that low of a price. Then I
: start thinking about the pawn shop around
: here that buys these inexpensive imports and
: the "budget basses" the music
: store I work for sells. The necks on these
: things are like wet noodles. The pickups are
: noisy. The sound is mediocre on the fretted
: instruments and absolutly horrible on the
: fretless ones. I can imagine the underpaid
: labor that assembles these things working in
: bad conditions. I dont think the wood has
: been dead for more than a couple weeks when
: they build these things. I would save your
: money and buy something at the 500 USD price
: range used. You'll be able to see if the
: neck wood has stabilized over a period of
: time instead of hoping the cheap bass
: doesn't warp during the next seasonal
: change. Fretless basses need good wood and
: pickups to sound really good. Technique
: helps alot too.
