never...... can it be done absolutely but the tone is just not there.. i can thump out just as many notes on my fretless as i can on my other basses but the strings are just "spanking wood" if you know what i mean. Please dont do this. if you want that tone.. play of the back pickup and really pluck hard u get a convincing (good sounding) pop
