on alexander the great's 28th birthday, he was attempting to stop a particularly pesky rebel leader named spitamenes. spitamenes, who had fought under darius and bessus, was attempting to start a rebellion by employing guerilla-like tactics on alex-conquered bases at the farthest reaches of the persian empire (specifically sogdia and bactria) and was doing pretty well since alex's army was used to pitched battles. still, he was more annoying than anything, and alex eventually stopped him later that year.
