I am from Manchester Mosside (the most violent and fearsome street in the UK) & there are guys of 23 ordering hits round there with 17 year olds doing the killings, I don't live there no more thank God. So the old fashioned London gangster wouldn't last 5 minutes in that kind of environment. There are people in offices such as chief executives that can afford hits on people that they really need to disappear. Ok they may not have all their teeth missing and scruffy coats. But then again John Gotti was a gangster and look how well dressed he was! He eventually didn't do the killings he just clicked his fingers but he was still a very feared gangster.
