LOUIS area was his daily morning drive "countdown," an early version of rap in which he spoke in rhyme over a rhythm bed and included callers who emulated his jive. KING had been in a coma for several years prior to his passing.

Longtime ST. LOUIS radio personality ROD KING, better known as "DR. JOCKENSTEIN," a name given him by GEORGE CLINTON of PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC, has died. KING was member of the ST. LOUIS Radio Hall of Fame. He began his career at WESL in 1977 as "TOUCHE THE DJ, The Jock That Never Stops." He also worked at KATZ-AM & FM.
