You're right; Mckenna is brutal but Joe DeNiro is the worst. I remember DeNiro when he was doing Top 40 at 106.5 in the 90's. McKenna and DeNiro sound like a pair cheesy FM-morning radio jocks that would go by the name of the "Breakfast Flakes" out of Wichita.
The on-air talent on the three all-sports stations as well as the KMOX sports staff is horrible with only a few standing out. Besides McKenna and DeNiro, most are just station-hopping retreads and faceless entities. Granted it's hard to make the mundane sound interesting. We have too much sports media covering too few sports. How many pre/post game shows do you need? You can only break down yesterday's game so much.
That having been said, here's the ultimate all-sports lineup for ONE station:
6-9: Tim MeKernan
9-12: Frank Cusumano(minus the superlatives) and Bob Ramsey(still the best in St. Louis)
12-3: PD sportswriters Bernie M and Kevin Gordan
3-6: Kevin Slaten
6PM and beyond; Speciality shows hunting/fishing, bowling, wrestling, hs sports...whatever. Sports fans are tuning into the Blues or Cardinals anyway.
