You received a message today from Illinois Arts Council Chairman Shirley Madigan regarding the dire state of affairs in Springfield:
"Without either massive slashes to programs and services or a major boost in revenue, or some combination of the two, the impact on the state FY2010 budget will be devastating. The State's support for the arts, along with many other important services, will be among the casualties.
"There has never been a year when we have felt as unsure about the final dollar amount of the Council's budget."
As we enter the final week of the legislative session, it is critical that you add your voice to the budget debate.
The Illinois Arts Alliance is urging state lawmakers to support a FY2010 budget that raises the revenue needed to avoid devastating cuts to the arts, education, and other important services. Deep cuts to the Arts Council's budget in FY2008 have already weakened the stability of the arts infrastructure in Illinois.
Please visit http://tiny.cc/ArtsAlert to contact your elected officials in Springfield today and tell them to support the arts.
Many thanks for all you do,
