Fes Stevens, a long-time performer and friend of Springfield theatre, died today at 4 a.m. Fes performed at Muni, STC and TIP, beginning with WEST SIDE STORY in the late '70's. I first met Fes in PAINT YOUR WAGON at Muni in 1978 and we have remained best friends ever since.
His beloved wife Frannie hasn't finalized plans for a memorial service, but when she does, I'll post them.
Fes was a loyal friend and a fine performer. It is unfortunate that this current generation of actors didn't get the chance to perform alongside him. Funny, honest, obnoxious, profane and friendly, Fes was a force both on and offstage. Fighting a long, debilitating battle with cancer, Fes showed his tenacious Irish spirit. Attention must be paid.
