Publicity.
Giving any credence to anything a journalist says about your work, good or bad, is not productive.
Sometimes at UIS, there are outside theatre professionals who take the time to give well-reasoned comments on the shows. THOSE are very helpful.
Newspaper reviews are, in general, not.
If you've never read The Season, by William Goldman (author of Butch Cassidy and The Princess Bride, among others), find it and read it. In one chapter, he lists contradictory quotes from reviews of one show.
The kicker? They all came from the SAME review.
If your reviews are good, send them to your mom and forget about them. If they're bad, use them to train your puppy and forget about them.
