I haven't posted anything on here for a while and I am pretty much repeating a lot of what has been said, but just in my own words. I am going to use this as a venting session because I am on break at work and bored, so pardon me. I am sooooo tired of cast members/staff members, blah blah blah getting all hurt by reviews. If anything, the entire, "well they're volunteers, and they should be praised" schtick makes everyone involved in Springfield theater sound like whiny babies. Get over it. It's a freaking review. If you want to put in the time to critize other productions (which we ALL do, whether it's printed in the paper or not),i.e. professional theater, amatuer theater, broadyway, national tour, Springfield Muni, St. Louis Muny, we better be able to take it. You want to be a "star" and be praised? That is not the entire point of theater. If you're not in it to learn, and if you are not in it for the simple pleasure of performing...then what are you in it for? To get told you are "wonderful?" NO! Of course that is nice to hear, but if EVERYONE thinks you are wonderful, and if everyone in Springfield theater is dancing around holding hands, giggling, and laughing, with Brian Mackey playing "Kum By Ya" singing about how wonderful everyone is and their volunteered efforts are glorious and fantastic, well then that is a trippy dream, and not the point! Isn't that room to become a lazy performer? A little constructive criticism here and there never hurt anyone.
