Captain Paul, I do not know where to begin. From the moment I read about the Black Boaters Summit two years ago in Audrey Peterman's travel magazine for African Americans 'Pick Up & Go' I knew I had to be at the 2007 BBS. That was not to be due to family situations that required me to stay in New York.
As time went on I was more committed than ever to make it to BBS 2008. I could not believe the time you spent talking with me on the phone to make sure I got there. Your commitment to your mission of exposing more of us to the history, beauty and fun of sailing is extraordinary. When we touched down in St. Thomas I knew a life-changing adventure was truly beginning. Thanks Joan for forwarding the names of other BBS travelers who were on the same flight. We excitedly met each other and pledged to have a good time.
I had never been on a 'yacht'. Even though we were on the smallest boat, it was beautiful and wondrous..I had to pinch myself---is this true????? The days went by so quickly. I was truly in Paradise, the clear blue water and skies, new friends, clean beaches, nightly hot spots, great crew---Capt. Dan, Capt. Darryl and First Mate Paula. What more could I ask for?????
All I talk about since my return to NYC is BBS and encouraging my friends all over the country to register NOW for next year. I look forward to becoming an integral part of the BBS.
