1. WHAT IS BLACK BOATERS SUMMIT AND IS IT FOR ME?
BBS is a island hopping event vacation using yachts as our hotel rooms. We spend 2-4 hours daily getting from island to island; then we snorkel, explore, shop and party. BBS is for families, singles, couples, white, black, young and old. 85% come single.
2. DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SAIL OR SWIM?
You need not know how to do either. Most of our participants are first time on a boat and new to the Caribbean and many do not swim. Diversity in Aquatics Program co-founder, Shaun Anderson, will teach non swimmers how to snorkel. So sign up!
3. HOW MANY PARTICIPANTS ARE ON EACH YACHT?
Do you remember the great passage we made from the old country? Not that many.
There are between six and eight participants per yacht plus a captain and first mate.
4. SPEAKING OF CAPTAINS, WHO ARE THE CAPTAINS?
Most are men and women like me that got too old to ski...lol Just kidding. Most have done recreational sailing for years,
some have taken ASA and U.S. Sailing certification courses, many like me are boat owners and, thank God, former boat owners. And one even sailed around the world single handed in a 44 foot sail boat. Google Captain Bill Pinkney. And I am very proud to say we have an excellent safety record.
5. I'VE ALWAYS HEARD THAT SAILING IS A LOT OF WORK.
Well that is because you have not been to BBS. We share kitchen duties cooking and dishes and that's about it.
6. WILL I GET SEA SICK?
Not on my boat. It's not allowed. And if you listen to my briefing you will not.
In thirty five years I've only had two get sick.
7. HOW DO I FIND A ROOMMATE?
Since most participants do come single, everyone finds a roommate by posting on this bulletin board. The cabins have ensuite heads,
and you may need to look that up, but only one bed per cabin. So find a non snorer unlike Cap'n Paul. I wake the dead.
8. HOW DO I SELECT A YACHT?
We've hid the yachts under "Pricing" on the tool bar.http://www.blackboatersummit.ning.com Most of our past participants prefer catamarans.
The bigger the better. I like them all. Cold beer and a great wind and I'm good to go. Heck I even like power boats.
Call me, Cap'n Paul (510) 222-6308, if you need help deciding on a yacht.
9. WHERE ARE THE YACHTS AND HOW DO I GET THERE?
Some are at Voyage Yacht Charter, West End and others at the Moorings Yacht Charter Company in Road Town.
The island is Tortola and the country is the British Virgin Islands. You'll fly to St. Thomas, ferry to Tortola, taxi to the charter company. I'll send you directions.
10. WHAT ABOUT MY TEEN?
You can bring them. I had one once. Thank God that's over! Anyway we put all the teens on a teen boat so everyone has a vacation. My twentyfourteen just called me wanting to go. Stand by for pricing on our teen boat.
11. CAP'N PAUL, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING CHEAPER?
Las Vegas, but it's a little hot that time of year. Then there is Mexico. Just watch you back! Actually Shaun, Jayson and I have worked out a $865pp dbl o/c on a Moorings 515 and Moorings 4300 for the under 40 folks with kids in private schools. No frills. Forget frills. The price includes:
* Seven days and nights on the yacht
* Nightly parties
* Seven breakfast, five lunches, three dinners on the yacht
* BBS welcome party
* T-shirt and hat
* The dates are August 7-14, 2009
12. OK CAP'N PAUL. I'M IN. HOW DO I SIGN UP AND PAY?
Now that's what I'm talkin about. Click on "Register" on the tool bar and follow the directions.http://www.blackboatersummit.ning.com
You can make two payments, half now and the balance by June 15, 2009.
