“Water, Water Everywhere…”
Captain’s tips on water
Water Use
– The average US indoor water use (excluding dishwasher) is 50 to 80 gals per day
– At that usage rate, that could mean 2-3 fill-ups for the yachts (Bring extra money, water is not free!)
– Conservation tips:
o Don’t leave the water running while brushing your teeth (great habit at home too!)
o Take showers on-shore when available
o Military-style bathing (1 min rinse, turn off water, soap up, 1.5 min rinse) or salt water bath and fresh water rinse
o Dishwashing: small amount of soapy water in a pot goes a long way; wash everything, then fill sink with clean water to rinse
o The Head - use as little water as possible (paper too!) in the head; if it hasn’t gone through you, it does go down the head

“Water, it does a body good…”
Drinking – Your body needs water more than food!
– Use bottled water for drinking (I discourage drinking from the holding tank)
– Try to drink 1 gal per day
– If you find your hands or ankles swelling – drink more water
If you have more tips, please share with the group.
