Posted by Cassie For BP on the leg (I use the calf, by the way), the reading will be elevated. you can get a much more accurate reading if you insist on lying prone for a full five minutes before they take the BP. If you need a BP check between doctor visits you can ask at your local fire station, where I've found the paramedics know how to do leg BP. Besides, those guys are a treat, yes?! Cassie

Just wanted to add to Carol H's list that it helps to warm your foot before the draw. I wrap a microwavable heating pad around my foot before leaving the house and don't remove it until she's ready to do the draw. (Then while she's working on that foot I put the heating pad on the other foot in case she needs to use that one too. Also it helps if you make an effort to find a lab person who's experienced with it and make sure you use the same one every time -- no point breaking in newbies at your expense. I don't find foot draws painful, but I've got a great phlebotomist. If you have trouble with the pain, you can get some Emla at the drugstore and apply it before the draw --numbs the area.
