My friend just had a huge mass removed under her arm this week and they took out 5 lymph nodes. She will get the results back in a few days.
It has been strange because her doctors kept telling her with the mammograms, ect....it didn't look like cancer....everything is OK and she has nothing to worry about. It is my understanding from having my own lympductomy that until you get the biopsies done, nothing is OK. But one thing that I wanted to ask that if it turns out to be OK and not cancer is she still at risk for lymphedema (SP)? Does she need to ask her doctor about it?
My other friend with breast cancer and something like 8 lymph nodes removed with cancer in them and she had radiation and chemo---her doctor DID NOT mention the possibly of lymphedema to her at all. I had to research it and then she got a perscription for a arm band and uses it. She feels better using it and was actually going to fly to visit me untill I warned her how much she needed this.
Thanks for your help.
