Hi, Nancy,
I'm not understanding why your insurance won't pay for the gloves? They have exactly the same insurance payment code as the sleeves, so if they pay for one they should pay for the other. Perhaps someone is not writing them up properly? You do need a specific prescription (my doc puts both sleeves and gloves on the same prescription form), but they oughta pay!
And I agree about ALWAYS wearing a glove with the sleeve. My therapist was poorly trained and knew very little, so she didn't tell me I needed a glove. Then I went on a plane trip with just a sleeve and my hand swelled like a baseball mitt. So do wear a glove if you wear a sleeve!
On this subject of sleeves there's good information at the National Lymphedema Network. http://www.lymphnet.org
They have Position Papers about Air Travel, Exercise, and Risk Reduction that are very good both to read and to copy off for your doctors and nurses (who can always use a bit more lymphedema education!)
Hope that helps.
Cassie
