Hi, everyone. I'm sooo glad I found this forum.
I had breast cancer 8 yrs ago and had a rt mastectomy. Am cancer free since then. I just found out that the surgeon took out not only the breast, but also ALL the lymph nodes and the chest muscle, which was an unnecessary procedure. Have been lucky until now, I guess, because I didn't have lymphedema until this past Sunday. Went to my PCP imm. and she sent me to a surgeon, who dx'd LE and sent me for compression sleeve, which I will begin wearing as soon as I receive it. My questions, after reading your many posts, are the following: 1.) Is the constant pain in the rt. armpit that I have developed over the past day or so probably related to the LE? 2.) what is "wrapping"? 3.) what is MLD? 4.) Should I be asking for more than just wearing a compression sleeve and gauntlet at this time? and 5.) where do you go to find a lymphedema specialist? Are they usually covered by Medicare???
I know that's a long posting, but I'm scared and ignorant on this subject, which is new to me. Thanks for taking the time to answer me!
