Hi Polly!
Be sure to get to a professional MLD Therapist asap. NOT a massage therapist who does LDM. They are not supposed to touch someone who has had surgery, that's really important. I have had lymphedema for five years, since my first mastectomy, and have had continuous massage treatments min. once per month. Tried to stretch it last summer to more than a month but I developed a lump on my arm so started with the sleeve and then my hand swelled for the first time. It was poorly fitted...should not cause swelling. Once things are under control again you could try lymphedivas.com they have coloured sleeves you order by arm measurement. Nicer than the granny-garment..hey,if you have to wear something like that, let it be cute!
With professional care, you will be fine! Read up on complications (no punctures, keep nails clean, arm moisturized, don't put pressure on the arm...like "downward facing dog"
. My arm now is the same size as the other...normal.
THE VERY BEST OF LUCK, ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS!
Diane
