Dear friend had lumpectomy 2 weeks ago. Came home same day, of course, no drains. Her incision opened last week and the drainage has become progressively profuse. She saw her surgeon last week; then, yesterday I drove her to him. He said she had an "unusual" volume of drainage, "milked" her breast and sent us home at 5pm; told her the same thing as last week "It should diminish soon." By 6:30 she had soaked through 8 4x4's, a blue chux, and her bra. Of course she is concerned this is an indicator she is developing lymphedema.
She is 63, divorced; tried to go back to work last week, only made it through half days. Worried about missing work.
I would be kicking screaming and demanding more info from doc. Not her style.
Did any of you experience similar circumstances following a lumpectomy? Would love to be able to tell her someone else "made it through." My double mast was not nearly as traumatic.
Thanks to all....cheryl
