It's one thing to be humble and do your best and not claim to be the next god of music, but so many people who THINK they are great, are not great, just good. Take a look at American Idol and you will know what I am talking about. I admire this guy's desire, but not his way of going about pursuing his career. If he's a hotshot "looker" then I hope he finds other hotshots to join him, but I'll tell you, it won't work because they will all be preening and strutting strutting so much they will not get anything done. Some of the best musicians don't always record a CD to share with this guy, their work is done live, not recorded. Go into a club and sit and listen to bands late at night and you will hear some awesome talent, but it's not on a CD to hand to this guy. I advise him to do the legwork himself, and esetablish himself somewhere. You have to love your craft, work hard, keep your ego in check, work long hours, practice/rehearse constantly, and seek out people who love what they do as much as you do.
I agree with you too Bob. When our band has auditioned people, I've had guys tell me theat they have played for 20 years and they made it sound like they were the next Eric Clapton or Brad Paisley (lead guitar for instance) yet when they auditioned with us, I heard nothing special, nothing like what they described to me.
