Terry, Power is supplied to the ignition switch usually with a red or pink wire...most of the time the back of the switch will be labeled..battery, accessory, solenoid..etc. I suggest getting a GENUINE CHEVROLET MANUAL. I have been in the business for years , Chilton and Motors Manuals tend to leave out exact wire colors or they overlap models and model years. To answer your question yes the purple wire starts at the ign switch ,goes thru the neutral switch, thru the firewall connecter and on to the starter. The green wire goes to the positive terminal of the ignition coil , to supply a full 12 volts to the coil during cranking mode only. Once the engine is running the coil is fed thru a white wire with a red / black tracer. This is a special resistance wire which steps the supplied coil voltage down to about 8 volts. If you untape the harness you will see the white wire ...printed on the insulation it states "resistance wire do not cut" .Good luck
