I gave up on Vice Grips years ago, the teeth seem to be too soft and will lose their gripping ability after only two or three uses. When I was a John Deere 'technician', I tossed several pair out the door to the shop, due to sheer frustration.
They may work better as a clamp, I have made a couple of pair into clamps for the ground lead on my electric welder, so we shall see.
