I have a Ford 8.8 rearend housing that I’m modifying to put under another car. The housing is out of a Explorer and has a bunch of cast iron bosses cast into the center section for stuff that I don’t need. I want to trim the excess iron off of it to lighten it up. One section of the excess cast iron is about a half inch thick and about 8 inches long. The others are smaller. I’m wondering if I can cut it off with a recip saw and a blade for cutting steel, or if the cast iron will immediately ruin the blade. I suppose I could torch the excess iron off of it and then grind it all down, but a saw cut would look a lot better. Your thoughts if any.
