Yep. Gotta get in on the latest "disease of the week" mentality. That is exactly what this whole automotive bailout thing is. Funny how the leftists who HATE this country, its foundation of free market economy, AND its evil corporations are lining up in droves to throw OUR money at them all of a sudden. Why? Unions pure and simple. They see unions as the last great publicly "acceptable" socialist institution in America. Everything else gets a new name. Tax and spend is now called contribute and invest. All to make it seem less invasive. The lefties are playing the union card as a "without unions we'd all be working in sweat shops" mentality. You know how many Americans love being helpless victims and are always "struggling" to make ends meet no matter the state of the economy. Look, the unions did some good stuff at their inceptions. No doubt of it. But those glory days are long over. As soon as the mob got their fingers in them in the 30's and 40's it was just a matter of time. Look at the utter destruction from within of the Teamsters and that was over forty years ago. The same is true now of the UAW. This whole thing about saving the country by saving the car industry is way overblown. Yes, subsidiary contract businesses depend on them, BUT, these companies will not disappear if they take chapter 11. They will have to reorganise and that means the end of $35 per hour line workers who have contracts that pay out 95% of their wages in pensions. Don't worry though. The end result of all this posturing by the UAW in Washington will result in their ultimate goal. The government will take over management of their pensions(read that us taxpayers will fund them)for X amount of current employees and all those already retired. We will pay for it but if the chapter 11 goes forward, we may pay for a whole lot less. Besides, don't these brainfarts realise that a 15 billion dollar loan will run these companies for about two months?
