My good friend is doing a frame-off restoration on a '54 Ford PU. Most things painted and starting reassembly.
He has found nearly 100% availability of all the parts he has looked for.
As an example, he was ordering brake cylinder kits. They were available off the shelf at something well under $5 / wheel. But the amazing thing was that he could get complete new (factory rebuilt) brake cylinders for ~$12 / wheel! That's a no-brainer.
Lots more examples. He says much of stuff available is NOS, but things like rubber parts are actual current or late manufacture.
Try getting something for one of the Jap imports and see what happens. The ABS controller on my wife's '94 Honda Prelude is inop. Not rebuildable (electronics) and a new one is special order, starting at $700+install!
She's doing it the old fashion way: Look where she's going and leave enough room that ABS is not required.
That Ford PU looks like a great on to rebuild!
