Evening gents. I stumbled into a really old, Western Electric lineman's test set at the flea market the other day. Just to look at it, I am guessing it is from the 40's. It appears to be made from bakelite and had a rather small rotary dial. It has the test clip leads and seems to be in very nice shape. They want $20 for it. Now I can tell that I actually needa butt set like I need a hole in the head. But dang it, this thing is neat. Just a wall hanger for me but I suspect it works if Western Electric's normal build quality is anything to go by.
Another question or two. I looked for these things on the web and as usual, scambay had the most but misleading would be an understatement with some of the listings. The model I am looking at is variously called a pin dial or pencil dial test set. I think because of it's tiny rotary dial. I have also seen later test sets that were blue, orange, or yellow. Any difference between the colors? I ask here because one of the bay listings purports to be a blue model but has an orange one in the photos! As you might guess, I have a pretty dim veiw of the online auctions. Thanks guys.
