You can rebuild the pedistal pumps and with the price of scrap down there are plenty of free parts returning to curbs across AmeriKa. I haven't bought a new sump pump in 30 years.
As to the 12 volt backups, look at them real close. They consist of a marine bilge pump and a battery charger. You can build a damn good unit for around 50 bucks.
There are no more American made pumps, the castings all arrive from Mexico or China and some assembly is done in the US. This fine tradition was begun in 1966 by All Power Tool in Rochester with a line of old camelback drill presses and a squadron of PuertoRican labor.
