As for myself, the motor not being submerged is an advantage. Submersible pumps of this size and purpose are more likely to be throw-a-way units.
Pedastal pumps use centrifugal switches in the motors to go between start and run windings. The centrifgal switch is the weak nspot but is also and easy and inexpensive repairin most cases.
Zoeller pumps are still worth their money. You'll find Zoeller pumps in many sewer lift stations around town.
