On the back-up systems, my buddy used a common marine bilge pump hooked to a deep cycle battery via a simple float switch. He kept a plug-in battery maintainer on the battery all the time so it would be fully charged if needed. This worked for him because the total lift & head on the bilge pump was only 30". If you're going more than that, you need to look at using a high-head pump which is going to cost you a good bit of money.
BTW, I have a few 12v compact float charger's left if anyone needs them. I haven't done a gun show since Mary got in the car wreck or they'd be all gone. Last year's price of $10 each + shipping is still good.
