There are a multitude of things far too many people don't understand:
1- "Federal Money" is NOT "free money" as politicians will claim it to be - the fed's don't have any money until they steal it from you!
2- Obama's "government will make money on ______" choose whatever to fill in the blank; refer to item #1 above - government NEVER "makes/creates" anything!
3- "Saving" is not in the political vocabulary.
4- "Loophole" is a little slice of freedom that was missed the first time around.
Cket has a good run above but let me expand on socialized healthcare for just a minute... First, did no one but me listed to obama's words last week? He clearly stated that he was going to put down all the rules that private insurance companies will have to follow then said that he doesn't want to run the insurance companies. Now, if we look at what happened to the car companies obama "doesn't want to run" we can clearly see that he forced Chrysler to sell out to foreign owned Fiat (Fix It Again Tony). He forced GM to sell the Hummer line to COMMUNIST CHINA! He is in the process of mandating unobtainable fuel economy standards designed for the sole intent to force the remaining auto & truck companies out of business. {personal note here, I have no compassion for the auto & truck industry because they are to blame for screwing themselves BUT that does NOT mean I support a the government confiscating those businesses into socialism! Those companies that ran themselves into the ground by caving to unrealistic union demands; by building junk and by getting themselves strung-out with waste and by not operating their businesses in the most efficient manner need to follow the capitalist system of bankruptcy. Nothing is "too big to fail", if GM & Chrysler go under completely, that simply opens the door of opportunity for other companies/individuals to break into the market.)
Not just Obama but the majority of politicians want not only your private medical records under government control but they also want the power to make medical decisions for you. Politicians think that anyone other than those shoving money in their pockets and their fellow politicians are idiots but more importantly this is all about "power and control". When you allow politicians to control your healthcare at any level, you are giving them your personal freedom.
I am in socialized medical, it's called the VA and I can tell you a few things about what happens when government takes control and everything must be "approved". As most of you know, back in 2005 my body crapped out on me. I spent 14 months in non-stop 24/7 severe pain and barely able to get around at all. You want to know what it feels like, imagine someone using a dull chainsaw to remove all the meat off the inside of your right leg from the knee up then using that same dull saw to slowly grind away at your nuts. Pain to the point that even when the air is cold you'll be dripping wet with sweat and can't breath. A sneeze is an extremely painful event. The pain robs you of sleep until your brain literally shuts down and you finally fall asleep only to be wide awake 15-20 minutes later because that SOB with the dull chainsaw is back ripping your flesh off.
You ask:
How did this get so bad? Well, it started back in 1987 when I smashed my right knee the first time on the USS Ike and the socialized medical system still suffering from the congress & jimmy carter cuts failed to provide not only a correct diagnosis but also the proper follow-up care. Then I got my head bashed a good one, scalped right down to the bone; yep, I could see the white of my skull and I forget how many stitches it took to pull everything back into place. Again, lack of diagnosis & testing failed to pick-up the associated injuries to my cervical spine - socialized healthcare means just put a patch on the cheapest way possible and get them out the door as quickly as possible. (In the words all too common to the military, "It pays the same no matter if we're marching or fighting so why go looking for a fight?") Then when my right knee gave out again because the government run healthcare system didn't fix it the first time, it now created additional injuries to my left knee and lumbar spine. Of course, the government run healthcare not only refused to acknowledge the injury to my left knee but they also refused to even check my lumbar spine.
What about pain meds?
Well, the only "government approved" pain meds available was ibuprofen which they gave out like candy without bothering to inform anyone about the long-term damage it causes to your guts. You see, government run socialized healthcare means there is always a line of people waiting and consultation takes time that isn't allowed for so you're pushed through in assembly line fashion to get you out the door as quickly as possible. Doc's don't care because just like the infantry man, "pays the same no matter if you're marching or fighting"... Thanks to my guts being tore-up from the "government approved pain pills", I can't take hardly anything now without experiencing side-effects that are often worse than the severe pain I'm taking the pills for in the first place.
Why can't they do anything about it now?
After 18 years of suffering with the knee & back pain because it wasn't properly diagnosed nor treated in the wonderful government run socialized healthcare system, the problems didn't go away simply because they were ignored, they became far worse. Over-use of my arms trying to reduce the constant pain in my knees and back has lead to carpal tunnel and irreparable damage to the ulnar & median nerves as well as additional nerve damage in my shoulder that is compounded by the nerve damage in my cervical spine. 18 years of favoring my right knee cause my lower spine to bend and produced un-even wear in my hips and excessive wear on my left knee. The sum total of all the combined issues is a totally un-repairable body as the osteo arthritis has progressed twice as fast as normal and there is no cure. Now, at the ripe old calendar age of 41, the tests prove the condition of my body as being that of a man 85-89 years old who worked hard labor all his life.
Trying to keep going, I returned to the government controlled socialized healthcare system trying to get a little battery powered scooter just so I can get around to some more places and try to prevent additional excessive wear on my joints that will cause me to be totally incapable of getting around under my own power at all. DENIED! Flat-out, no discussion, no presenting of evidence, nothing! Their claim for the denial, "We haven't medicated you enough yet." I tried to argue the point that my guts are tore to hell from their previous "medicating" and the pain pills only hide the pain, they don't do anything to help the problem. ... NOPE! Not good enough! No scooter for you! Government approval DENIED!!!
The side-effects of government run socialized healthcare are just as wonderful too! You see, because I have physical disabilities that prevent me from "functioning normally" as they put it, that's not good enough because in an effort to squander money for some friggin swamp mouse in california and to enrich certain "political friends", they refuse to approve my status as disabled because "I'm too young"! Yep, that's it, DENIED government approval solely because of age! Thus, if I try to get a job somewhere, the potential employer denies me the job because I am now a "liability" and can sue the employer if my pre-existing condition causes me to get hurt on the job. I have been denied dozens of jobs for that reason alone and was fired from another because of it and there is nothing I can do about it because the ADA laws don't apply to me simply because I have been denied government approval through the government run socialized healthcare system.
If you think the recession is bad now, let me tell you, it started for us in 2005 so we're pretty much accustomed to living on bare-bones litterally figuring out what we can save $0.0052 on at the store because it does make a difference. If you have no experience with the amount of corruption that's going on with the Medicare and Medicaid system already, then you would be best served taking a part-time job at a private ambulance service and see for yourself who is getting rich by stealing your money and how the majority of that money coming out of your pocket is not going to the patient who needs it but rather to the thief who doesn't!
