Thanks for the reply Tech. I have to agree with you about pluming fixtures. I put a brand new Moen kitchen faucet in my home less than two years ago. It already will not flow hot water. I suspect from what I am seeing on Moen's site it needs a new cartridge. Nice huh? Of course I don't have a receipt or anything for warranty. Why should any faucet fail in less than two years? Same goes with bath faucets and tank heaters. Most of the new tank heaters are very pricey since the government mandated all the combustion safety shielding. Less than ten years ago a basic, 30 gallon natural gas tank heater was about $139 anywhere you wanted to buy it. Check them out now. I looked at a 40 gallon model(five year warranty) and it was well over three hundred dollars. I guarantee you I will be looking at tankless flash heaters when mine goes south. I know, they have problems too(doesn't all plumbing junk?) but the mount to the wall like a control cabinet, direct vent on most models and are quiet as a mouse.
I know each trade is different and needs different tools but yeah, I notice our plumbers at work depend on channelocks a LOT. Even when they don't need them. I have seen them used on the brass compression nuts of stop valves and even a pipe wrench has been used for this too. Having used both I KNOW you have no real feedback as to how much torque you are putting on those compression ferules with those wrenches.
