I filled up my 5 gallon galvanized gas can the other day and placed it on the basement concrete floor where it has been kept for the last 30 years. I have never had a leak but today I smelled gas and looked under the can and there was some liquid. I washed it off and took the can outside and transferred the gasoline to a plastic container.
I have filled the galvanized can with water and placed on an old newspaper to see if it will show signs of a leak. So far the newspaper is dry.
I can see no leak or see anything that looks suspicious. Do you think that the leak is only with the thinner gasoline or what am I missing??
