Many pieces of legislation have already been brought forth this year by our own US House of Representatives that are prime examples showing just how well our Congress is looking out for the United States citizens. Here are some that relate to the environment; my comments will follow:
H.RES.11 - To collaborate with other international allies on energy projects that references the urgency to the "Man on the Moon" and United States reaching our peak oil production in 1970.
H.RES.268 - Recognizing and supporting the goals of "Earth Hour 2009".
H.RES.354 - Recognizing global warming.
H.J.RES.33 -Proposing an amendment to the US Constitution respecting the right to a clean, safe and sustainable environment.
H.R.232 - To create a Federal Greenhouse Gas Registry.
H.R.609 - To permit California and other state to effectively control greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles, and for other purposes.
H.CON.RES.32 - Congress to "remember" the oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara that helped launch the "modern environmental movement".
H.CON.RES.98 - Recognizing the disparate impact of climate change on women and the efforts of women globally to address climate change.
As many of you know, I am a huge environmentalist. I firmly believe in protecting our environment and wildlife by using sound management practices and by reducing waste and pollution based upon factual information derived from sound and un-biased scientific study. Unfortunately, given the above examples, it is clear to see that our members of Congress have no interest in the factual information provided by "real" scientific study but rather choose to endorse the lies fabricated by those wishing to pursue a social-political agenda.
"Real" scientific facts prove that the earth has been cooling for more than a decade and not one single scientific study can prove the theory of "greenhouse gases" yet Rep. Nita Lowey of NY wants to recognize "increase in global temperatures and human greenhouse gas emissions". Perhaps the news in NY is even more politically agendaized than we previously thought because it's been proven that the alleged "earth surface temperatures" presented by the proponents of global warming were intentionally inflated by placing measuring devices on chimneys and roof tops. The highly accurate satellite data clearly shows the surface temperature is dropping but let not the "facts" get in the way of congressional political agenda!
I find this political agenda quite interesting not only because our elected officials at all levels of government adamantly refuse to accept the real scientific facts about environmental issues but they actually go out of their way to use cite the completely fabricated lies that have been proven to be lies time and again. Not a single politician will admit to the fact that largest producers of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) are the earth's own volcanoes! Yes, that's right, the natural environmental activity of planet itself produces nearly 98% of the measurable atmospheric CO2. Oh, and just in case you're wondering, volcanoes are also the largest producers of other alleged greenhouse gases too. What's even more interesting is the fact that atmospheric CO2 levels were hundreds of times higher than they are today long before man walked the earth ... hard to blame that on the coal-fired power plants and SUV's now isn't it? If that's not enough, consider the fact that 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines dumped more pollution into the atmosphere in just 24 hours than all of mankind has produced in total since humans have been on the earth. Yes, you read correctly, just 24 hours of eruption exceeded the combined total pollution output of all humans for tens of thousands of years. Do not the facts make you wonder why you're putting toxic chemical and mercury filled compact fluorescent lamps in your children's room in the name of "saving the planet"?
Common sense tells us that recycling and keeping as much material out of landfills is a good thing. I have long been a proponent of "responsible recycling"; responsible means that you are not using more energy or creating more waste in the process of recycling X material. Example of irresponsible recycling are those rural communities having a single "drop-off" point where the combined cost and waste involved with individuals hauling their recyclable materials to the collection facility far exceeds any benefit of recycling. Another example are those communities that mandate the recycling of certain materials where the combined cost in money and energy used in recycling the material greatly exceeds any environmental benefit.
Anyone who has studied the methods of responsible recycling as I have also knows the largest obstacle in the recycling chain is government regulations. When it comes to non-hazardous biological waste such as wood, un-treated paper, yard clippings and so forth, government regulations often times mandate that these materials be disposed of only in a government approved landfill. Private individuals and companies wishing to recycle former materials into viable products more often than not find that complying with the excessive, and often times utterly stupid, government regulations far exceeds the available potential return on their investment.
We have 233 years of solid proof that government cannot run anything efficiently yet after more than two centuries of documented proof, the government's desire to shove its nose into everything is stronger now than at any time in the history of our country. One can only sit and wonder why politicians believe they can continue to cite environmental issues as the reason for raising your cost of living and taxes in the name of recycling yet at the same time be writing legislation that prevents effective and efficient recycling measures by private individuals or companies at no cost to the taxpayer! You see my friends, this isn't about "the environment" or "saving the planet" or "the climate", all this is about is politicians taking more of your money while stripping your freedom away.
