I hear you Mark and agree for the most part. There are some notable exceptions. Bosch's classic old 1587VS jig saws are still the best. Better than the new Milwaukee's all the press lathered over a few years ago when they were introduced. Same for the DunceWalt model. Our carpenter shop at work went through one of these jewels in no time. The new Hilti is not good either. Not to me. Our carps replaced the DeJunk with it and it vibrates like crazy. My Bosch kicks its butt. I don't know about their newest model the 1590. I find it telling the old 1587 is still being made. And even though I am not impressed with much of Hilti's expanded line of tools, their corded hammer drills continue to be the best I have ever used. Period. We have a couple of the smaller units at work for popping 1/4 and 3/8 inch holes for anchors. They just chug along. We have a TE-5 and a TE-6. I really like the 6 because you can set it to "light hammer" which reduces the impacts a lot. This is great in old plaster covered masonry wall and haydite blocks so you don't blow the holes out too big. But overall, yeah, it seems as if the major makers got caught way deep in the "upscale" DIY market.
