Having been into the circuit boards of a few DVD players recently I notice the new passive device. I wasn't familier with them before.
When i used to do things there were various levels of even the "dipped" type but I don't remember the ones which were split right up the middle. These are ones which can be actually be seen. They are from 3/16" to 1/4" and in the stream of door opening or control.
Now i don't see how it can be dipped and wrapped and still be split so the dust would influence its capacitance. Redundancies allow a unit to still function until it is the last link. So then chuck the whole player? Maybe this a variation of an optical sensor but I don't think so.
