"Balistic:Ecks versus Severs" is on HBO at we speak and I noticed something odd in one of the slo-mo sequences.

Lucy Liu character is firing. what appears to me, a 50 cal. truck mounted belt-fed machine gun.
In a slow motion scene, as this weapon fires it appears to be ejecting 3 to 5 more casings than the muzzle flash for each fired round indicates.
What am I missing? Is this just Hollywood-style enhancement at its best or am I overlooking something?
