Probably not the ignition coil itself but the pick-up coil and I don't know where it is on the Chevy, something that should be picking up signal from the flywheel, crank, cam, distributer shaft... Usually when they just quite like that it's a pick-up coil or something in the control circuit but the ignition coil could very well just crap too. Did you check the codes to see if anything flagged? Does it have an ignition relay? A bad relay socket/plug can create the same symptoms.
