Posted by Arjun Sen By their specific chemistry, Polyesters possess reasonable chemical resistance and may be formulated for better resistance to UV. The Epoxies, on the other hand, are all aromatic. By virtue of this, Epoxies generally offer better resistance to chemicals but have poor UV resistance. In Powder Coatings, Polyesters and Epoxies may also be combined to form what is popularly called as "Hybrid" Powder Coatings. Your MS pipes are more functional by nature and may not really need a high degree of aesthetics. In which case, the functional coating would be Epoxy Powders or better still the Epoxy Polyester Hybrid Powders. FBE - Fusion Bonded Epoxy Powder Coatings are special types of Powder Coatings based on Epoxy chemistry tailored for application on most Pipe exteriors, and especially those than run cross country. Polyesters and Epoxies are two different resin systems having different chemistries, performances and applications in Powder Coatings. These resin chemistries are also used in liquid coatings.
