[Sunday, July 4th, 2004. Western New York has some beautiful areas, as we mentioned and saw with Destiny and Danny at the Holiday Valley Fireworks Display. One thing about Danny’s area though in the past five or six years, Independence Day has been rainy, hot, muggy, and downright nasty. This year is no exception.] [Danny opens the garage door and sighs as he watches the rain beat down on his truck in the unpaved driveway. Why is his truck in the driveway and not in the garage? There’s no room with his over-sized lawn mower and four-wheeler, plus one wall stacked with wood for the woodstove. He patiently looks on at the darkening sky, as a clap of thunder seems to bring a muggy breeze. You can’t grill in the open rain – what kind of cookout does this weather allow? Plans ruined. It is today that Brenna Erin Argus is to come visit. A cook out, good time, Danny sees his sister for the first time in Sixteen years the last time didn’t turn out well. Hopefully things will go smoother a lot smoother.] [From the soaking dirt road, now a stream of mud walks Destiny soaking wet in shorts and a black Championship Material T-shirt, no doubt borrowed from Danny given the size. Her hair is drenched as she makes her way up to Danny in the open overhead garage door.] Danny: Where ya been babe? [He doesn’t hesitate to pull her body close as he hugs her and plants a kiss on her damp forehead. She smiles back up at him and wraps her arms around him.] Destiny: Just a walk [Danny just smiles, knowing it’s relaxing to just walk in the rain even if it’s ‘weird’ to some people.] Danny: Brenna’s Cab should be here soon Destiny: Yeah, guess I'd better go change out of these wet clothes then eh? [She leans up and gives him a kiss] I'll be right back babe. [She starts walking toward the door] Danny: Ok babe I’ll wait out here I guess there’s nothing else to do Destiny: [looking back at Danny before she goes in the house] I'll just be a quick minute or two Danny: K, see ya in a few and take your time, driver probably can’t find the road anyway. [Danny watches Destiny disappear into the house before he turns his gaze back to the humid stormy day before him. It’s a few minutes before a van with a ‘taxi’ magnet on the side pulls into the driveway. Danny isn’t sure if he feels excited, anxious, nervous or relieved. He smoothes his silky black button up t with the green ghost flames. Why he smoothed it is beyond us, must be habit. It’s unbuttoned showing a clean white t-shirt underneath. He walks to the cab as his younger sister steps out of the cab after having paid the driver already.] [Up to this point, Danny hasn’t seen or heard of his sister since he was seven years old and she kicked him in the crotch. He was expecting well, he wasn’t sure. He sometimes pictured a giant truck-driving woman with a moustache and 36’ biceps. Sometimes he pictured a little gothic girl in all black with about 40 piercings and scarred wrists. But what he saw, undoubtedly shocked him beyond those.] [Brenna stood about 5’10 with maybe 120lbs to her. Her hair was light brown, and her eyes the same magnificent blue as her older brother’s. She was, in every sense of the word Cute. Danny didn’t expect this; he expected some hideous sideshow freak with five zookeepers equipped with tranquilizer guns. The faint makeup accented her petite face. She’s wearing a white t-shirt with some cartoonish-angel on the chest of it, with “Babygirl” written in pink glittery letters under it. The t-shirt is figure fitting but not to the point of showing everything, it stops at the belly button, showing a fit abdomen, and a pair of tight jeans pick up from there. Danny looks her up and down, still surprised that she isn’t bigger than him how could he have feared her for so long?] [A long look at each other without a word before ] Danny: Uhh Hi how are you? Brenna: [Smiling faintly] Better if I wasn’t getting soaked, you live in the driveway? [Danny smiles shyly] Danny: C’mon, lemme get your bags Destiny’s getting ready yet. Brenna: Destiny that your girlfriend? I like that name [They make their way through the garage as the cab pulls away, Danny carrying a duffle bag, Brenna carrying a smaller bag.] Danny: Yeah we have a lot of catching up to do [Brenna stops and looks at Danny in the eyes, he returns the look, before they embrace.] Brenna: I’m not sure it’s catching up more of, getting to know for the first time. [Danny smiles a little before breaking the hug.] Danny: You’re right, but I don’t live in the garage either [chuckles] let’s get inside and set up the spare bedroom for ya [They disappear into the house, leaving us in the garage to fade out.] [Inside Danny’s living room now sit Brenna Erin Argus and Miss Destiny Hunter. Brenna’s still wearing her Babygirl t-shirt and jeans, and Destiny’s wearing a white t-shirt and tan shorts, her hair up in a ponytail. They’re sitting on opposite ends of the couch talking.] Destiny: So, Brenna ya got a boyfriend? Brenna: No, just dumped some loser how long have you and Dan been together? [She looks rather comfortable for having just met her brothers girlfriend and being in his house for the first time] Destiny: About two months now. [Not too sure what to make of Brenna Destiny looks at her rather curious like] Did you want something to drink? [Danny walks in with two glasses in hand, putting one in front of Destiny and one in front of Brenna on the coffee table.] Brenna: Actually it looks like the bartender got it already Danny: Still working on supper you two behave ok? [Brenna laughs as Danny walks back out to the kitchen] Brenna: He always like that? Destiny: [chuckles as she watches Danny walking back out to the kitchen. Turning her head toward Brenna] yeah, sometimes. [She leans forward and takes the glass Danny set down in front of her on the coffee table and takes a drink.] Looks like he is trying to get us drunk too, there's vodka in the Pepsi. Brenna: [laughing] Well then, bottoms up. [She takes a sip of her drink and slowly sets it back on the table] Brenna: He’s not too subtle with the vodka either is he strong. Destiny: [laughing] Be thankful he put Pepsi in it at all. He usually don't. Brenna: Yeah seems to be a male thing in the Argus family [a very dry statement] Destiny: [not too sure what to make of the comment] Oh? How long ya goin to be in NY for? Brenna: I’m not really sure, I kinda lost my job Destiny: Sorry to hear that. Are you goin to be looking for work while you are here? Brenna: Well maybe, it’s a thought I guess Danny: [from the kitchen] Food’s ready Destiny: [looking in the direction of where Danny's voice came from then she turns her head back toward Brenna and she takes another drink of the vodka and Pepsi] Looks like we better head to the kitchen. [Brenna takes another drink from her Pepsi too before standing] Brenna: Great another thing about the Argus men is they can cook. [Fade out as they head to the kitchen] [Fading to a couple hours later we come to the back porch, which so happens to be where the hot tub is. Destiny is wearing her usual black bikini, while Brenna is wearing a red white and blue flag-like two-piece bikini. Fats is wearing black trunks with a blue skull pattern cutting diagonally through. Each of them has a glass in hand; each glass has a clear substance, which is undoubtedly not water.] [They all seem to be enjoying themselves. What they thought was going to be an awkward evening turned out to be not so bad. They were enjoying each other's company and getting to know more about Brenna. Relaxing a little more and of course that is with the help of the vodka, which they have had quite a bit of. All three of them seem to be feeling pretty good.] [Danny is sitting beside Destiny with his arm around her. Destiny looks to be quite comfortable. Brenna is sitting opposite them.] Destiny: [looking over in Brenna's direction] What you got planned for tomorrow? Brenna: Well, I was hoping, I could kinda sorta stay the night here so I could look for an apartment tomorrow? I know, rude of me, inviting myself to stay Danny: Hey don’t worry about it, we have to catch a flight tomorrow but you can stay you’re looking for a place huh? Brenna: Yeah, I just don’t wanna go back there too much bad shit Destiny: Yeah, I can certainly understand that [Danny looks between the two like they have some common past or some inside joke going on, as they talk as though they know what the other’s gone through] Danny: Mind if I ask what happened? [Brenna takes a big drink of vodka and looks not too pleased to talk about it.] Brenna: Just a guy or two bad relationship, I guess you could say. [Destiny takes a drink of vodka and stares off, not saying anything almost like she is lost in her own thoughts for a moment.] Danny: Maybe now isn’t the time but if you ever do need to talk, I’m around and it’d be my pleasure to talk to my sister about anything. [Brenna smiles faintly] Brenna: Thanks Danny maybe, sometime [She looks at Destiny and recognizes the look on her face, though never seeing her before today, it’s a universal look.] Brenna: I think she and I would be able to discuss it better though she knows what it’s like. Destiny: [looking at Brenna, smiling faintly] Yeah, anytime you wanna talk about it ya let me know and I would be glad to talk with ya. [Brenna nods] Brenna: Maybe another time, don’t wanna kill the buzz just yet [she laughs and takes another drink as Danny realizes he’s definitely sure of what they mean but doesn’t want to think about it] Danny: So, what kind of work are you looking for? [She shrugs] Brenna: I don’t know, anything with decent pay I guess
