Posted by Matt on 9/25/2003, 8:55 pm, in reply to "Banned book by Albert E Jacomb" Josiah & Albert had distributed leaflets around London advertising "Womanhood: A Book for Ladies" which brought it to the attention of the Police who promptly ordered a copy to check it out. The Police considered it indecent and obscene and Josiah & Albert were charged at West Ham with selling indecent books and with printing and making for sale indecent books. From there the case was passed to the Old Bailey. They had sold 200 copies of "Womanhood" by the time they were charged. There's an article on it in 'The Times' of Thursday October 4th 1906 where this information is from.

The book Albert E. Jacomb got into trouble for is apparently called "Womanhood". However, whilst he and his brother Josiah William Jacomb (not Arthur H.) had published this book, neither of them actually wrote it - hence it is not on the list of books authored by Jacombs. The book was allegedly a reprint of a book which had been around for a number of years before they published it.
