Posted by Brent on 11/6/2003, 12:31 pm, in reply to "Secret of Smithore" I would like to say I have just read in several places that Smithore can't drop below $43 and that isn't true. I saw it at $26 today. You can undercut the price of smithore with a food shortage, as this prevents all players from buying mules to develop land -- the price of Smithore than plummets. Cool, huh?

Sure -- when you play against the computer, Smithore generally swings only between $43 and $64. It takes extreme manipulation to push it beyond $64. The problem is the computer players like to grab Smithore plots early and develop it which keeps the price down. However, the "secret" is that they can be dissuaded from doing so if you do this yourself and do a Smithore gambit early, as you put it. I guess less sophisticated players (like myself :-) have a tendency to get food and energy colonies going.
