I don't think the NES version is that bad. There are a couple of differences. The main one that comes to mind my (I just played both versions today) is that you can catch the wampus more than once per turn on the NES. This allows for one to get alot of cash built up early in the game and buy all the land. At the same time it takes more time to outfit the mule on the NES since you have to walk further than on the original versions. The main downside that I have seen with the NES version is that the AI of the computer players does not seem as smart. The original version will haggle with you a little more than on the NES.
