Dear Sister Suganthi, Warm Greetings to you in the Miraculous name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! I am much glad in have a contact with you through this email. Gone through your Email and noted the content in it. In your Email, you have asked about the dowry, the people are receiving. In fact this culture starts in TamilNadu only in the late 18th century. Before that the same custom as in the days of Abraham was there. The custom of dowry starts as, Initially the family of the Bride gives gifts for the newly married couple not for the bridegroom's family. But as times goes on rather than giving gifts for the married couple, they gave the gifts to the bridegroom's family as in those days, our culture was in joined family system. Later as years passed, the gifts became a compulsary one as people seeks for their choicest person for their daughter, rather than the bridegroom seeks for a bride, it just reveresed. In the early days the bridge groom seeks for his life partner. For that he gave gifts from his earnings to the family of the bride to make her as his wife. In early days young women were not allowed outside their houses, so the parents of the bride didn't find any problem in choosing the life partners. Now the soceity has changed. So place your future life in the hands of Jesus and pray unto God. Our Lord will bring the right life partner at the right time. Have His words, "The will of the LORD shall prosper in His hand." Isa 53:10 and "Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass." Ps 37:5. Continue to have close communion with God.
