I don't know if this is the right place to ask such a question but I am currently writing an historical novel on the American Civil War. I need some information on the size of things in that era. Namely, how big were the box cars and flat cars, and how many soldiers could be uncomfortably crammed into/on to one? How much power would an average engine have, ie how many cars would it be able to pull and at what speed. How often would they need to stop for water and fuel? Anyinformation that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
