Before radio communication with the train crew, written messages were handed on to moving trains by the tower man using a Y-shaped stick with a loop of string tied around the message and stretched over the arms of the Y.
Question(1): What was the stick called?
Question(2): Were duplicate messages handed up to the caboose as well as the locomotive crew?
Thanks for any additional information.
