Hi.
Long time lurker, first time poster here.
I'm currently doing some very intensive listening to different performances of Der Ring - Solti, Janowski, Levine, Haitink, Dohnanyi (to a certain extenet, anyway...), Karajan, Krauss, Furtwangler (la scala) and Bohm - Starting with each ones Rheingold and moving forward from there.
The things - so far - I find astonishing are that a, there is not a performance I heartily dislike, b, Donner cannot be an easy role to cast, and c, Froh and Freia are, to my mind, the two most annoying operatic characters ever. EVER!
Does anyone have any views on the above performances to expand my mind further - starting with Rheingold, of course.
If you like I could keep you posted as to how my Grand Tour is progressing? Or even if you don't like...
